Another EU Fine Received By Google Over Android Violations

0

In June 2017, Google has received a $2.7 billion fine from the European Commission for abusing its dominance of the search engine market in building its online shopping services.

Well, it seems that the problems for the big search engine company have not stopped here. In concordance with Reuters, Google might even receive bigger charges over an unfair pushing of its Android OS and services to phone makers.

Reports are saying that the manufacturers and competitors have filed a complaint saying that Google is abusing its market dominance. The big search engine company is accused that it has limited access to the Google Play Store if the phone company doesn’t bundle the device with Google Chrome or Google search applications.

In other words, Google is stopping manufacturers to create devices with customized Android OS, even if the operating system is open source. That being said, the new fine might even be higher than $2.7 billion. To make things even worse for Google, the company might also be forced to unbundle Android and the Google services.

Currently, there is an ongoing investigation in this matter and a decision will most likely be taken by the end of the year. We’re just hoping that the big search engine company will finally understand that since its operating system is an open source, it can’t force any company to use its Google Chrome or Google Search applications.

Unfortunately for the big search engine company, this doesn’t sound good at all. We’re pretty sure that the decision will not be very good for Google, but it will need to pay the price for being so abusive.

What are your thoughts about the way Google is trying to promote its browser and search engine by forcing companies to enable them on the tablets and smartphones that are running on Android OS?
