BBM is now allowing a select group of users to transact money with each other, thanks to a PayPal integration. An announcement made by the company today, confirmed the same.
All you need to do in order to be able to send and receive money through BBM, is link it to your PayPal account. However, you are not required to go through a long and drawn out registration process or to download and or even have the PayPal app on your phone. All you need to do is to tap the brand new ‘Send Money’ icon in BBM, and you’ll be walked through the setup process.you will be led through the process.
Once you have finished setting up, Bingo! You are good to go. The next time you are talking to someone, and want to send them some cash, you can do so without even leaving the conversation.
Speaking over the usefulness of such a feature to Melanie Messon, Matt Gromada, Director of Consumer Product Marketing, PayPal said,
Whether you’re paying a roommate back for rent or splitting dinner with friends, buying a group gift or sending your kid some spending money, sending money with PayPal through BBM is easy because it’s where your conversation is already happening.
People don’t have to leave BBM to send a photo or file. So, why should they have to with money? – Pay and get paid in the moment, right in your BBM conversations, using your mobile device.
The feature is in Beta right now and has been rolled out to select iOS, Android and Blackberry devices in Canada. However, the company hopes to follow-up with a global roll out soon.
