Google has released a brand new update that has changed its very face — quite literally! The search giant has made several drastic changes in its layout and design, that extend across its entire webpage, logo, as well as the Google Now Cards.
A blog post on Inside Search, Google’s official blog by Product Designer Kai Conragan shed some light on the reason behind the sudden changes,
Today, people use Google very differently from just a few years ago—we’re now as likely to touch and talk as we are to type. We also use Google on an endless number of devices, from mobile phones, TVs, and watches, to the dashboards in our cars, all in addition to desktop.
Talking about the changes, he added
We just announced a new visual language for Google that reflects this. You’ll start seeing our new logo, icon and animated dots soon across Google, including when you search on the mobile web and, of course, the Google app.
While the changes on the webpage — including the logo, which is quite a bit more colourful now! — are quite noticeable, it’s the mobile version of the app where they really catch the eye.
For one, the search on mobile has been completely revamped. Instead of having to specify different filters to pull up information, search results will include all kinds of results — images, videos, news stories, and other content. Users can then take their pick and choose to view one particular type of information over the others by simply swiping and tapping.
The homepage of the Google App for Android has also been changed and Google Now features cards that are organized by category. Also, the cards will now shift their position and size so as to make sure that the more important ones, are also the most noticeable.
While it will be a few days before the new Google can be totally sounded out by users who will deliver the final verdict, at first glance, the changes look to be have been crafted with an eye to the user convenience. For itself, Google had this to say about the changes
We think we’ve taken the best of Google (simple, uncluttered, colorful, friendly), and recast it not just for the Google of today, but for the Google of the future.
