We all know how important backing up your files is, especially if you’re a student working on your final paper or a freelancer working off of their laptop. A solid backup alternative can save lives, figuratively speaking, but also literally sometimes because your work is what gets you paid, and without money we sadly can’t survive. Google Drive has always been one of the most reliable backup tools out there, being able to backup personal photos as well as documents and such.
And now, everyone’s favorite handy little backup helper is getting a massive upgrade. The new app is called Backup and Sync, and it can back up your entire computer if you want it to. With Backup and Sync, you can select one or several folders, and it will automatically back them up on your Drive from time to time. In this way, you can make sure that you never lose something you’re working on ever again.
However, it’s important to note that the storage limit on Drive is currently still at 15GB, so backing up your entire computer might not be that doable in practice as it sounds in theory. Having 15GB for backup might sound like a lot of memory space, but it’s really not that much. Think about how most phones come with 16GB, and that gets filled up in no time with photos and music.
Therefore, while the new update offers us a larger scope of action as far as backing up documents on Google Drive goes, it’s also still limited. But Google are working on expanding it and, soon enough, we will have the ability to backup absolutely anything we want and/or need. How do you feel about the new Drive update? Let us know in the comments.
