Google Maps vs. Waze – Best Specs and Features Comparison

0

We all remember when Google acquired Waze, the Israeli navigation app, back in 2013, because we all thought that it would integrate it in Google Maps. However, Google didn’t do this, and instead let the app flourish by itself. And flourish it did. But the question appeared: which one is better, Google Maps or Waze? Well, the short answer is: depends on what you’re looking for. Let’s discuss.

Different Features for Different Needs

Both Waze and Google Maps function on the base of the same maps collected by Google, so in terms of accuracy and areas they cover, they are identical. This means that you can use Waze or Maps anywhere in the world, but there are also other factors you need to consider when making the choice.

For one, Waze is a lot more driver-oriented, and it has been from the start. Google Maps has also become recently more and more optimized for drivers, but it still lacks the community vibe that Waze has. On Waze, you and other users can mark police cars and filter, road blocks, accidents and so on a map and they will be displayed to other users in real time. And then, when the area is clear, other users can mark them as being gone.

Google Maps is useful for longer trips however, because of the many tools it can offer you to plan your trip. But for shorter, inner-city drives, Waze might be a lot better. At the end of the day, it depends on what you are doing and what your needs are. You and only you can decide if Waze or Google Maps is better suited for you. In our opinion, they are both two solid and equally good apps, but that ultimately serve different goals. So it just depends on what your particular goal is.
