HTC U will be launched at an event in Taipei on Thursday.
HTC U11’s release date is slated for June in the US with an off-contract price of $649.
As such the newly announced smartphone comes with the Edge sensor feature which is the key highlight of this smartphone. However, only two functions can be set at a time. The feature can be customised inside the settings. HTC’s U Ultra, announced in January, is now priced at $749.
Google Assistant is perhaps the best-in-class voice assistant for navigation and general searches, while Amazon’s Alexa is superior for shopping and home automation.
The voice assistant, which debuted on the HTC U Ultra, now combines Amazon’s Alexa with Google Assistant.
More will be known at its official release, so stay tuned.
There’s plenty going on with HTC’s new flagship phone and, although a little late to the party this year, it looks like it could be pretty competitive. Thus it comes with liquid surface and metal unibody design.
A new hands on video of the HTC U 11 has appeared online ahead of today’s press conference and you can see the video of the handset below.
The device further comes with IP57 certification for water and dust resistance. The 5.7-inch Quad HD primary display and an additional 2-inch display located just above it are the major attractions for the phone. The front-facing camera captures images at a huge 16 megapixels, has a 150-degree field of view and an f/2.0 lens.
The smartphone comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of ROM based on the variant one may purchase. However, other details were not revealed. In terms of storage and RAM, it has two variants 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
HTC U11 is expected to run on Andriod Nougat 7.1.1 out-of-the-box.
This camera has just been given the highest rank ever from DXO with a score of 90.
The iPhone 7 also has a 12MP rear camera, but an f/1.8 aperture, meaning less light can hit the image sensor which could mean it won’t be as good for low-light photos as the HTC U11.
“I’m not convinced the HTC U11 is better looking than the HTC 10, but it’s decent enough for an Android flagship”. There is a 16MP front shooter present, along with a 3,000mAh cell. In the case of the Xperia XZ Premium its 4K HDR-compliant screen and 960fps slow motion video recording are both world-firsts that prove unquestionably enticing, even if they’re not the primary reasons to buy it (find out what are by reading our full Xperia XZ Premium review).
In addition to the new BoomSound tech, the HTC U11 also ships with special USB-C earbuds that feature active noise cancellation and sonar in the buds that tune the sound perfectly to the listener’s ear canals. HTC’s “Squeeze for the brilliant” tagline set minds in motion – and my money was on some sort of unholy mishmash between stress toy and smartphone. Similar to other smartphones in the HTC U lineup, the U11 ditches the 3.5mm headphone jack and supports audio through Type-C port.
It’s likely that HTC may only start pre-sales of the handset on May 19th instead of actually making the handset available through retail stores across Taiwan.
